Vinatest Showcases ISO 15189:2022 @ QUATEST 3

On August 9, 2025, at the Quality Assurance and Testing Center 3 (QUATEST 3) – 49 Pasteur Street, Saigon Ward, HCMC – The Association of Testing Laboratories of HCMC (Vinatest) organized a seminar introducing ISO 15189:2022 Medical Laboratories – Requirements for Quality and Competence. This event was part of Vinatest’s series of specialized activities for 2025.

The seminar brought together nearly 50 participants, including members of the Executive Committee and representatives from Vinatest member laboratories across HCMC, notably from the laboratories of QUATEST 3.
 
 
The presentation was delivered by Mr. Bùi Hoàng Sang, Lead Assessor from the Accreditation Office for Standards and Conformity Assessment Capacity (AOSC).
 
Mr. Sang’s session covered an overview of AOSC’s activities and services, followed by an introduction to the ISO 15189:2022 standard. He explained its structure, which is based on ISO/IEC 17025:2017 - a framework already familiar to Vinatest members. His presentation detailed the standard’s scope, referenced documents, terms and definitions, as well as its core requirements for general principles, organizational and management structures, resources, processes, and quality management systems.
A key segment compared ISO 15189:2022 with ISO/IEC 17025:2017, highlighting both the similarities and the distinctive requirements specific to the medical field.
According to AOSC, approximately 96 medical laboratories in Vietnam have been accredited to ISO 15189, out of nearly 300 accredited laboratories nationwide. AOSC representatives also shared insights into common issues encountered during the accreditation process for medical laboratories.
 

Mr. Đinh Văn Trữ, Vice President of Vinatest, provided further commentary on ISO 15189:2022 and its requirements for quality and competence in medical laboratories.
 
The event concluded with an interactive discussion session, during which participants addressed topics such as requirements for reporting measurement uncertainty, equipment calibration, decision rules, and EQC & EQA sample handling.
Through this seminar, Vinatest members—particularly those from testing laboratories—had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the essential requirements for medical laboratories, gaining deeper insights into the similarities and differences between testing and medical laboratory operations.
